The Diamond Forest Garden, located in the Jorge Lacerda Thermoelectric Complex, covers an area of 3 hectares, where about 8,000 tree seedlings are cultivated every month. The space houses a nursery for seedlings, a seedbed and a compost site for organic waste.
Horto focuses on species native to the Atlantic rainforest, for donation to the community, educational institutions, and other public and private organizations.
Since 1989, the year in which this work began, more than 2 million seedlings have been donated.
Inside the Horto Florestal, there is also the internal composting process of all the organic waste generated in the restaurant and in the canopies of the Jorge Lacerda Thermoelectric Complex. In the composting process, beds (similar to flowerbeds) are built, using dry vegetable matter (grass and leaves) and the manual mixing of this material with the waste, ensuring the presence of oxygen in the process.
This method allows microorganisms to transform organic matter into natural fertilizer, rich in macro and micronutrients, which is used to produce seedlings, avoiding the purchase of chemical fertilizers, and the disposal of this waste in landfills.

Collaborate with native tree seeds to form new seedlings.

At the nursery gate, in Horto Florestal, there is a table available to the community, where it is possible to freely remove the available species. To request less than 50 seedlings, simply fill out the donation form on the table itself at the time of collection, marking the desired seedlings and checking availability.
