One of the topics of the 6th edition of ExpoMais, which will take place from 08 to 10/11 at the ACIC in Criciúma, was the debate on Just Energy Transition (TEJ).

The president of Diamante, Pedro Litsek participated this Wednesday (09) in a chat about this very important topic for the southern region of the State and for the country. Along with him, the representative of the SC government in the National Council for Just Energy Transition, Anderson Miguel, and the president of the Environment and Sustainability Chamber of the Federation of Industries of the State of Santa Catarina (FIESC), José Magri.

The three were very emphatic about the importance of a just transition for the coal production chain, which in the region alone generates 20,000 jobs and generates R$ 6 billion a year in the economy.

Pedro began the debate by explaining that the activities of the Jorge Lacerda Thermoelectric Complex, as planned, will close in 2040. “That is why this just transition is important over the next few years, where we will invest, for example, in gas power plants, while also migrating the activities of our employees,” Litsek explained.

José Magri explained that FIESC has at its disposal hundreds of research and innovation centers that can contribute a lot to the transition combining knowledge and technology. “The TEJ needs to be considered and gradual, and the sector begins in the coal mines, passes through the railroad, the Jorge Lacerda Thermoelectric Complex, until the collection of waste by cement companies, and many people are involved,” explained Magri.

Anderson Miguel spoke about the importance of creating the Just Energy Transition Program Council created in July of this year. “The State is the driver of this entire process, of the connection between the productive sector and organized civil society. The council must monitor the implementation of the transition through actions, deadlines and sources of resources, ensuring its execution, added the Government representative.

ExpoMais is characterized as one of the most important events in the region when it comes to knowledge and transformation, bringing lectures and chats on issues of technology and innovation.
